After the launch if Jan dhan Yojana, Swtchh Bharat abhiyan, 100 smart city project NDA government introduced another ambitious programme named “Beti bachao beti padhao” scheme. The project started with initial corpus of Rs.100 crore. It was the dire need of hour since women welfare has been a matter of worry for a long time in our society. The campaign was first started from Panipat, Haryana (the state having lowest sex ratio in the country).
About Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
This project is built to provide welfare measures and improving the lives of the neglected girls of India. The proposed scheme will address issues related to women and children including gender equality and medical aid. For education of girl children it proposed a special savings scheme with a fund of Rs.14,389 crore. It announced Rs.150 crore for the safety of women in urban and large cities. In a bid to encourage birth and education of girl child he launched another programme “Sukanya Samridhi Account”.
Sukanya Samridhi Account
This is programme is the twin sister project of Beti bachao beti padhao yojana. Under Sukanya Samridhi Account girl children below 10 year will have bank accounts with more interest and income tax benefits. It will fetch an interest rate of 9.1% and also income tax rebate. It can be opened anytime from the birth to 10 year with minimum deposit of one thousand rupees. Maximum 1.5 lakh rupees can be deposited in a fiscal year. It can be opened in any post office, will remain operative for 21 years from the date of opening. Maximum 50% of the balance amount can be withdrawn for higher study.
