Leela Samson has resigned from the post of Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) also known as censor board.
The resignation came soon after the controversial film Messenger of God got clearance from Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). This movie features Dera Saccha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in lead role and depicts him as god. The reasons cited for the decision in her statement are “Interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers of the organisation who are appointed by the ministry.” she also stated despite completing their terms some old members were still in the board. The inability of the new government to appoint a new board was responsible for the extension of their terms. This led some corrupt panel members to interfere in the working process of CBFC.
